I have just finished reading Victoria Hislop's The Return. I thought it was a riveting read. It throws light and 'educates' about the Spanish Civil war, a war and era which you may notice that is very rarely referred to or mentioned in Spain itself. It's been described by some reviewers as excellent "beach read" but I thought it was a lot more than this - I would be interested in hearing others' views on the book. I haven't read her debut nobel The Island and would be interested in hearing your views on this as well if you've read it.
Thanks

The Return
Much more than a "beach read" The Return held me spellbound from cover to cover. I loved everything about it, especially the dancing and the description of the places and the people. I did not enjoy Victoria Hislop's first book "The Island" but she surely redeemed herself in my eyes with "The Return". Many more of this kind please.
I am currently reading this
I am currently reading this and at first found it a little tedious, but am happy to say that the book gets better, particularly when describing events around the civil war in Spain. For me, this isn't as good a read as "The Island" but an interesting idea and well written.
