I’ve wanted to read a Louise Dean book for a while, but never actually got round to reading one, so I grabbed the chance to review this book, when I saw it on the newbooks Website.
This is a story of a family re-uniting, the prodigal son returning, and the building of bridges between estranged siblings and partners.
As the book opens we see Nick, the prodigal son, travelling to see his father for the first time in fifteen years. We are then gradually introduced to other family members including, Ken, the cantankerous death obsessed Dad and David the put upon brother.
As the book slowly develops so do the relationships, and as the author casts an insightful eye over each character I found myself becoming further drawn into the family. The characters only would give plenty to discuss at a Book Group.
I enjoyed this book, it has both laugh out loud moments, and tear inducing events, and even though the story took a while to get going, once it got there, it was hard to put down, and I read the last hundred pages within a couple of hours!!
