Libraries & newbooks

Here at newbooks we are great supporters of the library service and have been actively involved in library events throughout the UK and in Ireland.

We offer the following to support your work with readers. To take advantage of any of these simply complete the Contact Us form.

newbooks flyer NEW! consumer leaflet - a free resource

Library budgets being what they are, you're never likely to be able to afford as many copies of newbooks as you'd like. Our leaflet is ideal for spreading the word to library users generally and members of your reading groups in particular.

The leaflet is free of charge - just contact us with how many, who and where to send them. We are keen to engage with library authorities on how the magazine can be used for income generation, rather than purely as part of the service you offer. Again just contact us with a daytime telephone number and we're happy to discuss options and opportunities.

Click on the image to download a pdf of the leaflet and see what we offer readers: the latest paperback reviews, special offers and competitions and, of course, interviews with the most newsworthy authors.

The magazine

We publish a perfect bound, bimonthly glossy magazine of 84 pages. Our aim is to provide information on new and recently published books that readers and reading groups are likely to find of interest. Through interviews, author articles, Q&A's and pieces by our readers on authors and books they love we present an eclectic mix with something for everybody.

We like to think we represent the voice of the reader. And each issue readers can claim a free copy of one of our featured books - all we ask is they cover our p&p costs.
We are currently discussing how to make an audio version of the magazine available to VIP readers and are especially interested in your views on how that might be best done.

Point of Sale support - a free resource

newbooks pillar poster Each issue we print a pillar poster illustrating our five featured titles in a bright lively design that will catch your readers' attention. For authorities taking up to 50 magazines we send as many posters as copies. Above 50 we supply 60 posters and more are available on request - all free of charge.

Advertising support

For a year and a half now we have advertised in the Saturday book supplements of The Guardian, The Times and The Telegraph. Most recently we have had full page ads in the the Hay Festival literary Review supplement of The Guardian and the Arts supplement of the Saturday Telegraph.

Welcome Packs - a free resource

Our reading group 'welcome packs' are a way of alerting new or recently formed groups to the magazine's existence.

Each pack contains as many copies of the magazine as there are in the group and a cross-section of featured books, one per person. All we need to know is
  • who to despatch to
  • which branch (or home address if group leader isn't a librarian)
  • how many in the group.
In sending these we acknowledge the library authority as being the reason the group have received it - all absolutely free of charge and with NO obligation on either the authority or their library users. We just want readers to see a copy of the magazine so they can make up their own minds.

Reader reviews

As well as the twelve pages each issue, our website carries over fifteen hundred reviews written by readers like those in your reading groups who tell it like it is, and not necessarily how the publisher might prefer.

Other publicity

newbooks Publisher Guy Pringle is regularly involved as master of ceremonies or as a speaker at readers' days or reading group recruitment evenings. In addition he has been a judge for the Penguin Orange Reading Group of the Year award for the last 5 years.
