Which book do you wish you had written?
Pretty much anything by Dickens or Hardy – even though I still haven’t managed to read all of what those two giants published. For some reason Jane Austen doesn’t join their company for me, even though I love her work – and all of which I have read (but then that’s only six and a half books). Perhaps it’s the testosterone that appeals? Chunky books that fill the bookcase very quickly and shout ‘well-read’ and ‘intelligent’ – convenient cover in my case. If pushed, I’d probably go for Great Expectations although I find it disconcerting that Dickens appears uncertain about how to end his own story, leaving us two alternatives to choose from.
