newbooks subscriber Judy Gillespie in Fife wrote recently to let me know she was successful in the World Book Night lottery. For her book to distribute on 5th March she chose All Quiet on the Western Front. Her plan is to provide a set for history students at our local school and hand out others in Pizza Express. Judy's choice, she tells me, 'was obviously influenced by the reading week in Normandy!'
To which I can only add two things: firstly, that reading group 1 - or was it 2? - voted All Quiet as our best book of 2010. And secondly, that subscribers Sarah Akhtar (Half of a Yellow Sun) and Margaret Paterson (Fingersmith) have also been signed up for World Book Night and have ambitions plans to convert new readers in their areas!
Do let me know if you are a similar ambassador and what you plan to do with the book you're allocated.
